Professional Development
Why do professional Development?
Professional Development provides opportunities for library and information professionals to build upon their current skills and knowledge to support providing contemporary library and information services.
Additionally, personal professional members of ALIA (or Students and General Members participating in the Proficiency Recognition Program) could use any professional development ideas below to count towards their CPD hours!
Professional Development ideas with an LGBTQIA+ focus
- Attend ALIA Rainbow’s monthly meetings and local catchups to share ideas and information.
- If your library has access, undertake the SBS Core Inclusion and the SBS LGBTIQ+ eLearning courses. If your library does not have access to these eLearning packages, you can also do the course yourself, but there is a cost involved.
- Read book reviews of upcoming titles that relate around gender diversity and/or sexuality to support in undertaking readers’ advisory services.
- Check out the Australian Queer Archives (AQuA) and the collections held within their archives, particularly the guides and resources developed by the AQuA.
- Check out the events and resources produced by the CILIP LGBTQ+ Network (UK), ALA Rainbow Roundtable (USA) and the IFLA LGBTQ Users Special Interest Group.
